Biographic Sketch of Prof. Yen-Chieh Huang

 Yen-Chieh Huang received his MS and PhD in 1991 and 1995, respectively, from Electrical Engineering Department, Stanford University. His PhD thesis is a study on a compact THz free-electron laser. Between 1995 and 1997, Dr. Huang was appointed by Prof. Robert L. Byer as a postdoctoral research affiliate at the Center for Nonlinear Optical Materials, Stanford University, while working as a consulting scientist on laser at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory. Beyond his doctorate graduation, he has been actively involved in the study of quasi-phase-matched nonlinear optics, laser-driven particle accelerators, and superradiance free-electron lasers. In February 1997, he joined the faculty of the Nuclear Science Department, National Tsinghua University (NTHU), and in August 1999 he transferred to the Department of Electrical Engineering in the same university. In 2008, Dr. Huang established the High-energy Optics and Electronics Laboratory (HOPE Lab.) at NTHU. Prof. Huang has published a wide area of technical papers in laser, nonlinear optics, particle acceleration, and relativistic radiations. He was awarded the 2001 Outstanding Young Electrical Engineer Award from the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering, and the 2004 Outstanding Young Optical Engineer Award from the ROC Optical Engineering Society. He also received the Outstanding Teaching Award and Outstanding Academic-Industry Collaboration Award from NTHU in 2005 and 2007, respectively. He was award the outstanding alumni of National Sun Yat-Sen University in 2017. 

 Prof. Huang served as the director of the Graduate Institute of Photonics Technologies and the director of the Photonics Research Center during 2015-2018. Currently, he is the director of the THz Optics & Photonics Research Center.
